Suffering from Andropause? Preferred Men’s Medical Center of Fort Lauderdale Can Help!

Andropause Treatment and Low T Clinic - Ft Lauderdale Florida - androAs a man ages, the level of testosterone in his body may naturally decrease over time.

This can be very gradual and the symptoms may be so subtle at first that they go unnoticed for quite some time. Eventually, men may notice things such as a decrease in libido, lost muscle mass, increased levels of fatigue, and more. For men who may be experiencing these symptoms, the specially-trained medical staff and experienced physicians at Preferred Men’s Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL offer a way to take back their lives.

The Keys to Understanding Andropause

Before seeking treatment, men should understand what exactly andropause is.  Simply put, it is a condition similar in nature to the menopause experienced by women.  However, there are a few key differences.  For one thing, andropause tends to be much more gradual than menopause, meaning that it can exist for quite some time before being noticed.

Physiologically, what is taking place is that the testes are producing less testosterone than before.  This can result in some of the more intuitive symptoms such as erectile dysfunction, decreased libido and other sexual performance issues.  However, it can also result in some unexpected issues such as male breast enlargement, weight gain, increased fatigue and depression.

Although a man’s testes will continue to produce sperm until he is past the age of 80, the amount of testosterone they produce will usually begin dropping off around the mid-30s.  Beginning around the age of 35, a man will experience a decrease in testosterone of about 10% a decade. By the time he is in his mid-50s, the decrease can be quite large; almost one-third of men notice symptoms by the age of 55.  By the age of 65, the symptoms can be more than significant enough to cause physical and psychological issues.

Symptoms of Andropause

In addition to the symptoms noted above, there are other things that may indicate a man is experiencing andropause.  These other symptoms include:

  • Memory issues
  • A feeling of irritability
  • An inability to sleep well
  • Sudden hot flashes
  • The onset of a tendency to sweat more
  • Difficulty focusing
  • Unexplained weight gain

If a man has experienced any of these symptoms, he should consult with our experienced staff of physicians. The doctors at Preferred Men’s Medical Center can perform thorough medical examinations and blood tests to determine whether the patient is suffering from andropause, and identify issues such as low testosterone (also known as “Low T”).  If required, the physician will also prescribe a series of other tests to rule out any other underlying medical conditions.

If You Are a Man Suffering From Andropause, You Have Options

There are different plans to approach andropause; the best course of action will depend on the specifics of each situation. It is possible that something as simple as a change in a man’s diet or exercise routine can bring about the desired result. In addition, some medications may be used to alleviate some of the symptoms of andropause. Testosterone replacement therapy may also be an option for some men.

Of course, as with any hormone therapy, there are some risks associated with testosterone replacement.  Some medical conditions may be worsened by replacing testosterone.

Andropause Sufferers Do Not Have To Go Through It Alone

Unfortunately, fewer than 1 in 10 men who suffer from andropause will end up seeking treatment. The others simply do their best to endure and make the best of a bad situation.  Men who have this condition do not have to endure it in silence. By seeking out treatment at Preferred Men’s Medical Center, they can take affirmative actions to treat their symptoms and return to the level of enjoyment of life they once had.
