5 Side Effects Of Low Testosterone

Testosterone is a naturally occurring hormone in all humans. Generally speaking, males have much more testosterone than females. They begin producing testosterone at a much higher rate once they hit puberty, then eventually begin to produce less after the age of 30. Testosterone directly influences many aspects of the human body, and having too little of the hormone can cause unwanted side effects. Here are five of most common side effects.

1. Change in Sexual Behavior

Low testosterone can result in a reduction in the desire for sex. This doesn’t necessarily mean erectile dysfunction, although it is possible for the two conditions to be related. Lower testosterone does, however, cause a decrease in spontaneous erections.

2. Everyday Behavior Changes

Testosterone doesn’t just regulate sex drive. It can also directly affect the human mind. It’s possible to develop lower self-confidence or even to develop depression or sadness. This is because testosterone directly regulates emotion.

3. Changes in appearance

Testosterone is known as the male hormone not just because it occurs at a higher amount in males. Normal or elevated levels of testosterone lead to an increase in muscle strength, and having low testosterone does just the opposite. It increases body fat, especially around the breast area. Additionally, a low count can also lead to hair loss.

4. Internal Conditions

Aside from mood and outward appearance, a lack of testosterone can result in trouble sleeping or even conditions like sleep apnea. It directly affects bone density, which means low testosterone results in bones becoming more fragile. This is often the result of osteoporosis, a bone condition that usually is associated with women but can affect men with low T.

5. Possible Infertility

Testosterone plays a direct role in the production of semen, which contains sperm. Men who experience low testosterone levels will usually see a decrease in the amount of semen after ejaculations.

These are just five of the most common side effects of low testosterone, a condition which unfortunately affects many aspects of the human body and mind.
